Van den Akker Antiques was formed by Rob Copley and Ray Raymakers in the spring of 2000. Both are former fashion designers who worked with some of the most important fashion houses in both the United States and Europe. Rob and Ray have translated this understanding of fashion into the world of interiors and 20th century design making Van den Akker Antiques one of the premier destinations for the most prominent designers, architects, private clients and collectors from across the United States and Europe.
Van den Akker Antiques is known for the collection of furniture, lighting and accessories that both Rob and Ray hand select from across Europe. The main focus of the collection is 20th century modern with an emphasis on pieces created by the most celebrated designers and architects in Europe of the period. Pieces by designers such as Gio Ponti, Jules Leleu, Willy Daro, Fornasetti, Ico Parisi and Maxime Old are always represented in Van den Akkers collection as well as pieces by Ado Chale, Fontana Arte, Arredoluce and Stilnovo.
Van den Akker Antiques has been featured in both articles and editorials in the most distinguished interior design magazines in the United States as well as several prominent design publications from across Europe.
