uploading Rare Bronze and Back Painted Glass Cocktail Table by Max Ingrand
France
circa 1940
A very rare cocktail table featuring a base in bronze with splayed tapering legs and swagging rope shaped stretchers which support a central globe decoration in bronze which has been enameled in shades of blue for the oceans and red and orange for the continents. The bronze table base supports a very thick green glass asymmetrical shaped top which has been back painted in overlapping metallics in a abstract modernist design with back and etched and painted placed stars in shades of gold, copper, silver and bronze. The tables top is clear in the middle allowing the ball decoration to be seen while looking down at the table. By Max Ingrand, France circa 1940. Please see the book "Max Ingrand, du verre a la lumiere" by Pierre-Emmanuel Martin-Vivier for photos of Max Ingrands back painted glass and mirrors.
This piece was chosen by guest designer Samuel Botero to be part of Van den Akker's "Modern Giving" charity champaign.
Samuel Botero's comment regarding this piece: "Like a constellation with a planet in it's center, this table will be the center of attention in any room. The eglomise glass top is a superb work of art with a multi hued metal leaf finish. Then you discover in it's center a little blue and orange world. That is wit of the most sophisticated sort. I could live with this table. It is a real smile."
